The Foundation of Speed

Speed isn’t luck, it’s a skill – which means it’s trainable. Every athlete has the ability to get faster, it’s about combing the technical and physical side of speed. Our systems have been refined over many years to ensure that every athlete that trains with us gets faster.

Our Speed Philosophy

Speed is 70% physiological and 30% technical. Meaning 70% of speed comes from your physical qualities – things like your strength, power, fat free mass and muscle fibre makeup. All of these are trainable but take a long time to see improvements in. The other 30% is the technical side of sprinting which refers to an athlete’s mechanics and efficiency – this is very trainable and with the right guidance is easy to learn – meaning results can come fast.

 

More Than Just Speed

Increasing an athlete’s speed is not the only benefit to speed training. When you improve your mechanics, you become more efficient – which means you can handle higher intensities for longer periods of time. To the athlete, this often makes them feel fitter, without doing any more conditioning. It also reduces the risk of injuries as it increases the athlete’s ability to deal with greater demands.

We begin with 3 intro sessions before deciding which group is most suitable for your ongoing training. All 3 intro sessions are 1 on 1 and educational based. Think of these intro sessions as 3 separate workshops but in a 1 on 1 setting. This is where we teach you our methods and philosophies regarding drills, acceleration and max velocity.

We also conduct a movement screening and needs analysis before getting a baseline time using our VALD performance timing gates. This allows us to measure your speed improvements over time.

Once you have completed the 3 intro sessions, we will decide which training group is best for your current needs and you will begin your weekly sessions with the squad.

The three intro sessions are packaged at $295 and then ongoing costs vary depending on which type of training you continue with. You can see our prices for ongoing coaching on our get started page

Depending on your sport, position and what we find during our needs analysis, we design a testing battery which is specifically designed for you. This might include a 20m acceleration, a 40m dash, max velocity using GPS or even a broad jump and med ball throw to measure power outputs.

Yes! We analyse your current training load and decide when, where and how much direct speed work fits into you current training schedule.
